1 – Preparing the Area

Use a chalk line to mark the area where the paving stones will be. Use a shovel to dig the ground 1 foot from the area inside the line. Use gravel to fill in an area about 10 inches.

2 – Compacting the Area

Use a tamper to compact the gravel. Grade in the gravel so that any water will flow from the driveway. Cover the gravel with sand to a depth of 2 inches from the soil surface. Tamper together the sand.

3 – Aligning the Stone

Use rope lines to help you keep the stone straight. Start in the middle of the driveway and work your way out towards the edge. Place all the stones full before you cut. Use spaces to keep the space between the stones even.

4 – Completing the Car Path

Install the edge stones. Cover all the rocks with more sand. Remove excess sand with a broom. If necessary, apply a sealer to the paving stones.
